Final Stop Motion
Mass production/ industrial Design
Wishes - George Palmer
My story board here shows my stop motion through a conveyor belt, it shows all the stages of the mass production process of the cubes travelling on the conveyor. The story board also shows the cubes crumbling in to scrunched paper showing the transfer from virtual to reality and fitting into everyday life, shown by the hand picking up the Ipod.
I chose to use this music clip for my final stop motion because I think it relates to how everything is very modern including the way things are produced and to the ways we live our lives and so I chose a music clip to show the modern side of the motion.

I continued to still look at other precedents which have drawn stop motion as I want to base my stop motion mainly on drawing.
I like how this person has their picture drawn on whiteboard as if it were doodles and then shows movement on the drawings as if they were coming alive and showing another virtual world.
What I have decided to change in order to improve my stop motion after the feed back from my tutor is I will need to incorporate the cartoon reality of my drawn stop motion into real life reality. To do this I want to have my item produced from the cubes which are being mass produced, dropped off from the conveyor belt and as they fall the cubes will scrunch up into a ball of paper and fall to the end of the paper. Mass produced items will then come out of the paper realistically.
I also want to include that mass produced products are generally used in every daily lives such as Ipods for teenagers. I’m going to show this transition of mass production to everyday life by inserting the process of mass production of a product and show how mass production has developed the modern world.
This is a rough draw up of what may be my final stop motion. I am pleased with how it turned out and after getting feed back from my tutor I know what to add and remove from what I have.
I view industrial design as product design and mass production; however I chose to focus mainly on mass production which I will then incorporate into my stop-motion and storyboard. I looked at an image that I thought was a good idea where I can base my theme and layout of story board on and possibly also my stop-motion.
I like this image because I think it is relevant to my concept. I could use the idea of this image for my storyboard to show my story being produced in mass and the conveyer belt spewing the pictures of my story into a giant container just like the image is showing.
I also think that the image is a modern based factory and I was originally looking at mass production around the darker age of the industrial revolution where mass production was more of big machines and tough laboured workers and a harsher environment. After developing my idea I think I will base my idea more on the modern ways of mass production where it is more machine driven and less human labour.
Through getting feedback from my tutor I had a change in ideas for my story where I plan to also incorporate this image into my stop-motion. I plan to have the idea of my test stop-motion incorporated into my final stop-motion showing the morphing feature into it. I want to show in the final work that “cubes” will be mass produced on a conveyer belt then dropped off into large containers. As the cubes drop into the containers it will morph into different items such cameras, phones, IPods and headphones etc. and this will show that mass production is the “new world” now and everything is made through mass production. I see this as a “New way of seeing”.
Sketches of ideas of how I may pursue my storyboard in different layouts and also giving me ideas for my final stop motion.
Group work 2
We approached our advertisement with simplicity in mind. After considering film and stop motion we chose flash animation as our final format as it allowed us to utilise the logo we had created in our previous group project. Our company – Nana Technology, accompanied with the slogan “…helping you use technology, you old fart” is a service available for the over 60s that aims to help familiarise them with the digital world and give them the confidence and knowledge to participate in it.
Our advertisment aimed to capture the sense of isolation from the digital world, and in turn, modern society itself, that many people in an older generation experience. We conveyed this sense of frustration at being ‘out of touch’ though manipulation of our logo (a simplified silhouette of an elderly person) using Flash. Sound and motion are key elements as you see the figure shaking the phone and hear his yell of exasperation. The appearance of the company name and slogan at the end are used as a fun and humourous reminder that it is actually not hard to connect with digital world and that our company can help the older generations do it.
